The
Upper Arlington Mens Lacrosse team has reached
the state title game for the 15th time in 16
years under Head Coach Ted Wolford by dismantling
Cincinnati Moeller, 14-5 Wednesday night at
Marv Moorehead Stadium. The 19-1 Golden Bears
will face unbeaten and top-ranked Hudson for
the Ohio
High School Lacrosse Association championship
at 5 pm Saturday at Dublin Scioto High School.
The
Bears rolled over Moeller thanks to four goals
from senior captain Grant Devilbiss and two
from junior attackman Adam Donahue combined
with a stifling defense. Senior captain Scott
Lathrop was the offensive catalyst with the
game's first score just 1:16 into the game.
"I'm very happy with the way we started
the game," said Wolford. "We won the
opening faceoff and that was important. Scott
was being aggressive and that bodes very well
for us." UA led 9-1 at halftime.
Hudson
advanced to Saturday's title game by defeating
visiting Worthington Kilbourne, 8-4. "Hudson
has beaten Kilbourne twice. They are unbeaten
and the highest rated team in the state,"
said Wolford. "They are a balanced team
with athletes up and down the roster and they
are well coached."
Hudson,
who has never won the state title, also beat
long-time UA rival Dublin Scioto, 12-6 May 4th
en
route to its undefeated season.
UA
downed Hudson in the state title game nearly
a decade ago in a game played on the natural
grass at
Worthington Kilbourne.
"Our
team belongs to the seniors and the captains,"
according to Wolford. "We've looked at
it that way for
years. But from top to bottom our team has been
focused all year. They know what they want."
